The third meeting of the project “LESS WASTE- Promotion of waste prevention and recycling at the cross-border area”, organized by Municipality of Grevena, was successfully completed in the framework of the cross-border cooperation program Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme “Greece-Albania 2014-2020” on Tuesday 28/01/2020, at Grevena Municipality’s council hall.

Representatives from all partners were present and especially from Waste Management of Western Macedonia (DIADYMA S.A.), Municipality of Grevena, Municipality of Kastoria, CERTH,, Urban Research Institute (URI) and Municipality of Skrapar.

During the meeting, the progress of the project was discussed and each participant presented separately the actions that have been implemented so far, the ones to be implemented and the problems they face. They also decided on the next semester’s actions to ensure that the project will not face delays.

The overall objective of LESS WASTE II program is waste prevention and promotion of composting at local and central level in the cross-border area between Greece and Albania. The program aims at composting organic waste from kitchens and gardens of households and catering companies as well as in organizing and optimizing organic waste management and composting at Community and Municipal level.

The program is based on the EU waste policy hierarchy, which makes waste prevention and the diversion of biodegradable waste from landfill as a priority according to the Commission’s Communication (2014) “Towards a cyclical economy: a program zero waste for Europe”.
